KARACHI: The Sindh government has restored Saturday as a weekly holiday for public and private educational institutions, reinstating a five-day school week across the province while extending daily teaching hours by one hour to ensure timely completion of the academic syllabus.
Under the revised schedule, all public and private schools will remain open from Monday to Friday, with Saturday and Sunday observed as weekly holidays.
According to media reports, the revised timetable was approved by the Chief Secretary of Sindh and will be implemented uniformly across all government and private educational institutions in the province.
Authorities said the additional teaching hour each day is intended to prevent disruption to academic activities and ensure the curriculum is completed within the scheduled timeframe.
The decision comes less than a week after schools resumed classes following the two-month summer vacation.
Last month, the Sindh government had announced a six-day school week, effective Aug. 1, 2026, requiring public and private schools to remain open from Monday to Saturday. A formal notification had also been issued at the time.
The latest decision reverses that policy and restores the previous five-day school week for educational institutions across the province.
