AWARAN: The kidnapping attempt in Balochistan’s Awaran district was foiled after local residents resisted Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) terrorists, resulting in the death of an local commander of the proscribed Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF).
The incident occurred on the night of August 2 when armed men, identified by security sources as members of the Fateh-ul-Haq (FAH)-affiliated faction of the BLF, attempted to abduct a local civilian contractor for ransom.
The attackers, led by the group’s alleged Local Area Commander (LAC), Akhtar Ali Sher, stormed the contractor’s residence in an effort to carry out the abduction.
However, local residents and members of the contractor’s family resisted the attack, leading to a violent confrontation.
During the exchange, the alleged militant commander was reportedly killed with his own weapon, while other suspected militants, some believed to have sustained injuries, fled the area, leaving behind the body of their commander.
The civilian contractor sustained injuries during the incident and was shifted for medical treatment.
In this sense, the security personnel reached the area, secured the scene, and launched a search operation to trace the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, the security officials said the alleged kidnapping attempt reflects a shift in tactics by militant groups, claiming that after failing to directly target security forces, they have increasingly resorted to attacks on civilians, including kidnappings and extortion, to generate funds and create fear among local communities.
