ISLAMABAD: Terrorist attacks increased across Pakistan in July 2026, while security forces significantly stepped up counterterrorism operations, killing a record number of militants, according to the monthly security report released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
The report said 112 security personnel were killed during the month, marking the highest monthly toll since January 2023, when 114 personnel lost their lives.
PICSS said security forces killed 401 militants in counterterrorism operations during July, the highest monthly militant death toll in more than a decade. The figure represents a 109% increase compared with June.
The report also said 74 civilians and 19 members of peace committees were killed during the month. Civilian fatalities increased 21% compared with June.
Pakistan also recorded eight suicide attacks in July, the highest monthly number in more than a decade, according to the report.
Provincial Breakdown
In Balochistan, 62 security personnel and 54 civilians were killed during July.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, excluding the merged tribal districts, 38 security personnel lost their lives. In the merged districts, another 79 security personnel were killed.
January-July 2026
The report said security forces killed 1,857 militants during the first seven months of 2026.
During the same period, 434 security personnel, 463 civilians, and 32 members of peace committees were killed in militant violence.

PICSS said security forces have continued intensive counterterrorism operations despite growing security threats, resulting in the elimination of a large number of militants across the country.
