MUZAFFARABAD: Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir (AJK), Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, has alleged that a march towards Muzaffarabad during the election period was part of a coordinated conspiracy aimed at creating widespread unrest and disrupting the electoral process.
In a statement, Rathore said the march was intended to destabilize law and order in the region and undermine the peaceful conduct of elections.
He claimed that “mischievous elements” had been planning for weeks to spill the blood of innocent Kashmiris, adding that the march was designed to trigger chaos and insecurity.
The Azad Kashmir premier further alleged that the armed individuals involved were equipped with modern weapons and had access to key locations from where they targeted security personnel.
Rathore urged the public to stay away from what he described as disruptive elements, alleging that they use civilians as human shields during confrontations.
Meanwhile, AJK Police said two police officers were injured after armed members of the banned Awami Action Committee allegedly opened fire during the unrest.
Separately, local media reported that clashes erupted during a march towards Rawalakot organized by the banned Joint Awami Action Committee, with reports indicating that several people were killed and many others injured.
However, authorities have not officially confirmed the reported death toll or the number of those injured.
The situation remains tense, and officials have urged the public to avoid gatherings and cooperate with law enforcement until normalcy is restored.
