UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan delivered a sharp rebuttal to India at the United Nations UN Security Council on Thursday, dismissing New Delhi’s assertions on Jammu and Kashmir and terming its preaching of peace as “ridiculous.”
Counselor of the Pakistani mission to the United Nations, Saima Saleem, said that Jammu and Kashmir is neither an integral part of India nor an internal matter of the country. She emphasized that India’s refusal cannot change the international status of the long-standing dispute.
Taking a firm stance, Saleem reminded the Security Council that India itself had originally brought the Kashmir issue to the forum. “Today it is deviating from the resolutions,” she said, adding that oppression and human rights violations continue unabated in occupied Kashmir.
The Pakistani counselor also condemned India’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty, calling it a violation of international law. “The water of the Indus River is a source of life, not a weapon of war,” she asserted.
In a further escalation of rhetoric, Saleem alleged that terrorist networks linked to India have spread globally. She also accused the Indian government of making Islamophobia a state policy through Hindutva ideologies.
