QASOOR: A fun afternoon turned into a devastating tragedy on Friday when two young brothers drowned in the river near Khadian Khas railway station in Qasoor District.
The victims have been identified as 7-year-old Rehan and his 5-year-old brother Hasnain. According to local sources, the children were playing near the water’s edge when their ball rolled into the river. In a desperate attempt to retrieve it, both brothers entered the water and were quickly swept away by the current.
Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the distress call. Emergency responders launched a swift water rescue operation and successfully pulled one of the brothers—7-year-old Rehan—from the river. He was given immediate first aid and transported to a nearby medical facility.
However, the search for the younger sibling, 5-year-old Hasnain, continues. Despite extensive efforts, rescue divers have been unable to locate the child. Daring divers have plunged into the murky depths to scour the riverbed, but the operation remains ongoing as darkness begins to fall.
Family members and local residents gathered at the banks, praying for a miracle while anxiously watching the rescue crews work tirelessly against the clock.
Authorities have urged parents in the area to keep children away from the riverbanks, especially during the monsoon season when water levels can rise unexpectedly and currents grow dangerously strong.
