Quetta Sit-in Talks Resume as Balochistan Govt Seeks End to Protest

QUETTA: Talks between a government delegation and representatives of the families of the Ziarat tragedy victims resumed in Quetta on Thursday as authorities stepped up efforts to end an eight-day Quetta sit-in.

The meeting focused on the protesters’ demands and possible steps to resolve the standoff.

Provincial Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove led the government delegation. The team included provincial ministers Bakht Muhammad Kakar, Mir Saleem Khosa and Mir Asim Kurd Gello, as well as Senator Manzoor Kakar and Bilal Kakar.

The protest committee included Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Asghar Khan Achakzai, Agha Hassan Baloch and Maulana Qadir Loni, among others.

The Quetta sit-in talks were underway at the time of filing this report.

The sit-in entered its eighth consecutive day on Thursday. The protesters are demanding justice for police personnel killed in the Fitna al Khawarij terrorists attack on the Mangi Dam police post in Ziarat.

The government and protest representatives have held several rounds of talks over the past week. However, they have yet to reach an agreement.

Earlier, Langove said the government had accepted most of the protesters’ demands. He said the provincial government had agreed to establish a judicial commission to investigate the attack.
