Terrorists attack Bannu police station, four injured in fierce gun battle

BANNU: The least four people, including a police official, were injured after terrorists launched a coordinated attack on the Miryan Police Station Bannu, triggering a powerful explosion and an intense exchange of gunfire with security personnel, officials confirmed.

In this regard, Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Captain (Retd.) Muhammad Furqan Bilal confirmed the attack, while the administration of the local hospital verified that four injured individuals, including a police officer, had been shifted for medical treatment.

The attackers attempted to drive an explosives-laden vehicle into the Miryan Police Station compound. The attempt resulted in a powerful explosion that was heard across a wide area, causing panic among nearby residents and damaging parts of the police station as well as several nearby houses.

In this sense, the police officials said security personnel immediately responded to the attack, leading to a prolonged exchange of fire between the terrorists and law enforcement officers.

The security forces successfully engaged the attackers while additional police contingents were dispatched to the scene to reinforce the operation and secure the surrounding area.

However, the officials further revealed that before launching the assault on the police station, the attackers detonated explosives on a previously damaged bridge leading to the station.

The apparent objective was to block reinforcement teams and delay rescue operations. Despite the damaged access route, emergency responders and local residents worked together to assist the injured and facilitate rescue efforts.

The latest attack comes amid a continuing rise in militant violence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
