Balochistan CM Says No Talks with Terrorists, National Security Non-Negotiable

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Wednesday said Pakistan and Balochistan were inseparable and vowed that the country would not compromise on its sovereignty or national security.

Addressing participants of the 20th National Workshop Balochistan, Bugti said violence, social media campaigns, and what he described as “legitimized voices of terrorists” were spreading hatred against the state. He said these tactics were part of a broader effort to weaken and divide Pakistan.

“The enemies of the state want to break Pakistan into pieces,” he said.

Bugti rejected the argument that underdevelopment was the main cause of violence in Balochistan. He said several parts of the province, including Turbat, had seen significant development, yet militant movements had not disappeared.

“If underdevelopment were the real reason, these so-called movements would have ended in those areas,” he said.

The chief minister said anti-state groups were not struggling for development or public welfare. Instead, he said, they wanted to impose their ideology through the use of force.

Bugti said his government was ready to hold dialogue with anyone who remained within the framework of Pakistan’s Constitution. However, he ruled out any negotiations with groups seeking to break up the country.

“There can be no talks with anyone who wants to dismantle Pakistan,” he said.

He stressed that the state came above all other considerations and said national security was non-negotiable.

“We will not hesitate to sacrifice our lives for the State of Pakistan,” Bugti said.

The chief minister acknowledged that people could have legitimate complaints about governance and public administration. However, he said such concerns could not justify compromising the country’s security or integrity.

Bugti also pledged to strengthen merit-based governance. He said restoring young people’s trust required a transparent recruitment system based solely on merit.
