LOS ANGELES: Spain became the second team to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Belgium 2-1 in a thrilling quarter-final clash played in Los Angeles.

 

The former world champions struck first when Fabian found the net in the 30th minute, giving Spain an early lead. However, Belgium responded quickly, with De Catala equalizing in the 41st minute to level the score at 1-1. Notably, this was the first goal conceded by Spain in the tournament, ending their perfect defensive run.

 

With the match seemingly heading towards extra time, Spain produced a late surge. Marino scored the decisive goal in the 88th minute, restoring Spain’s lead at 2-1 and sealing the victory in the dying moments of the game.

 

The win sends Spain into the semi-finals, where they will await the winner of the remaining quarter-final fixtures. Earlier, France became the first team to reach the last four, having secured their own quarter-final victory.
