Shaukat Nawaz Mir Arrested Near LOC

MUZAFFARABAD:Law enforcement agencies in Azad Kashmir have arrested Shaukat Nawaz Mir and Raja Sohaib Javed, key leaders of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee.

According to the police, both individuals were wanted in multiple cases and were taken into custody during an operation within the jurisdiction of Dheerkot.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muzaffarabad, Riaz Mughal, confirmed the developments, stating that Shaukat Nawaz Mir was apprehended during the targeted operation in the Dheerkot area.

Sources revealed that the law enforcement agencies detained the two leaders near the Line of Control (LOC) while they were attempting to flee across it.

According to officials, the banned Joint Awami Action Committee faces accusations of inciting the public against the state, and the group had been actively demanding the abolition of reserved seats for refugees in the Azad Kashmir Assembly.

Prior to these arrests, the Azad Kashmir Home Department had announced cash rewards for anyone assisting in the capture of four active leaders of the committee, a list that included Shaukat Nawaz Mir, Umar Nazir Kashmiri, Khawaja Mehran Arshad, and Sardar Aman.
Officials stated that legal proceedings are currently underway against the detained individuals under the specific charges registered against them.
