ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a new wave of monsoon rains across the country.
It has warned of heavy downpours, urban flooding, and potential landslides in various regions during the first week of July.
According to the PMD, rain is expected across most parts of Azad Kashmir—including Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh, and Haveli—from July 1 to July 6.
Similarly, various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will experience rainfall from July 1 to July 5.
Heavy spells are also forecasted for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum.
Additionally, between July 3 and July 6, regions such as Sahiwal, Jhang, Multan, and Khanewal are expected to receive showers.
The PMD noted that Gilgit-Baltistan will see wet weather from July 1 to July 5, while different areas of Balochistan and Sindh will also receive monsoon rains.
The weather advisory warned that lightning strikes and intense rain could damage weak infrastructure.
Meanwhile, mountainous terrains in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and Azad Kashmir face a severe risk of landslides.
The met office added that flash floods may trigger local streams and nullahs in hilly regions.
Furthermore, torrential rains carry a significant threat of urban flooding in low-lying residential areas of major cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Faisalabad. Given the hazardous conditions, the PMD has strongly advised tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary transit until the weather stabilizes.
