Great news for workers, important announcement on 43 thousand minimum wage

KARACHI: The Government of Sindh has announced a significant increase in the province’s minimum monthly wage, setting it at Rs43,000, with the revised rate scheduled to take effect from July 1.

The announcement was made by Sindh Minister for Labour and Human Resources, Saeed Ghani, who said the decision was taken on the directives of the Chief Minister of Sindh as part of the provincial government’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers.

The minister said the increase in the minimum wage would directly benefit millions of workers and employees across Sindh by providing financial relief amid rising living costs.

He added that the provincial government remains committed to introducing labour-friendly policies aimed at improving the economic conditions of working families.

Saeed Ghani also announced that the Sindh government had successfully secured a federal income tax exemption for the Workers Welfare Board.

The exemption will strengthen the board’s financial resources, enabling it to launch additional welfare initiatives and expand support services for workers and their families.

He said the welfare of labourers continues to be one of the government’s top priorities, adding that several programmes are already being implemented to improve education, healthcare, and social protection for workers.

He noted that children of workers are currently studying in some of the country’s leading educational institutions, while deserving students are also receiving direct financial assistance to ensure they can continue their education without interruption.

The provincial minister said the Sindh government recruited 240 doctors during 2023 to strengthen healthcare services.

He further stated that the relevant government institutions are making every effort to achieve their assigned tax collection targets, which would help generate additional resources for public welfare programmes.

The minister reasserted that the Sindh government is pursuing worker-friendly policies and remains focused on expanding public welfare initiatives across the province.

He expressed confidence that the increase in the minimum wage, along with ongoing welfare and development programmes, would contribute to improving the quality of life for workers and their families while supporting sustainable economic growth in Sindh.
