ISLAMABAD: The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, held a high-level meeting with the Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the discussion primarily focused on regional developments and strategic peace initiatives.
During the meeting, President Pezeshkian highly commended Pakistan’s constructive role in maintaining regional stability and security.
He further lauded Pakistan’s active measures aimed at fostering mutual trust among regional stakeholders. Both leaders comprehensively reviewed bilateral relations, matters of regional peace, and avenues for enhancing defense and diplomatic cooperation.
Acknowledging Pakistan’s consistent efforts toward de-escalating regional tensions, the Iranian President emphasized the critical importance of maintaining continuous communication and bilateral consultations on matters of shared interest moving forward.
Pakistan’s Strategic Mediation in US-Iran Peace Talks
Pakistan’s geopolitical posture has increasingly transitioned from a traditional security-centric state to an active regional facilitator and diplomatic bridge.
This strategic evolution is most vividly demonstrated by Pakistan’s historic milestone in successfully bringing the United States and Iran to the negotiating table after nearly half a century of deep-seated diplomatic estrangement.
Acting as a trusted, neutral intermediary, Islamabad has leveraged its unique diplomatic relationships with both Washington and Tehran to establish a reliable backchannel communication network aimed at de-escalation, conflict resolution, and the pursuit of a sustainable ceasefire framework.
This mediation role is rooted in Pakistan’s broader national interest: a stable Middle East directly translates to economic security, secure trade corridors, and domestic peace within South Asia.
By creating a structured environment for peace talks, Pakistani diplomacy has focused on reducing volatile proxy tensions and building verifiable confidence-building measures (CBMs) between the two adversarial powers.
The breakthrough of facilitating these high-level dialogues has profoundly elevated Pakistan’s global diplomatic stature.
It showcases the state’s capacity to manage complex, multi-layered international crises through mature statesmanship rather than military alignment.
For global stakeholders, Pakistan’s successful facilitation of US-Iran engagements underscores its indispensable value as an anchor of peace.
Rather than merely managing local borders, Pakistan is actively writing a new chapter in global diplomacy—proving that sustainable regional stability is best achieved when regional powers champion dialogue over confrontation.
