ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to return to Pakistan today after a high-stakes diplomatic mission in Switzerland, where he played a mediating role in talks between the United States and Iran.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by a key delegation, departed for Switzerland last night and is scheduled to land back home at 11:30 am Swiss time. All delegation members will return with him, according to official sources.
During his brief but significant visit, Sharif facilitated dialogue between American and Iranian representatives, leveraging Pakistan’s unique position as a country with ties to both nations. While details of the discussions remain under wraps, sources suggest the talks focused on de-escalation and regional stability—issues directly linked to the recent Strait of Hormuz tensions.
The Swiss-mediated engagement marks a rare diplomatic breakthrough, with Pakistan stepping into a role traditionally held by major powers. Sharif’s hands-on approach underscores Islamabad’s growing ambition as a regional peace broker.
The Prime Minister is expected to brief cabinet members and military leadership upon arrival, with a formal statement on the talks likely within 24 hours.
