LAHORE: The legal dispute between prominent television actress Momina Iqbal and religious speaker Allama Nasir Madni has escalated, with the actress serving a formal defamation notice to Madni through her legal counsel, Adnan Hassan Khan.
The legal notice, filed under Section 8 of the Defamation Ordinance, accuses Madni of using highly objectionable and derogatory language against the actress in a recently circulated video message.
The text of the notice states that the speaker’s remarks were a deliberate attempt to malign her character and inflict severe damage on her professional and social reputation.
Consequently, Momina Iqbal has demanded that Madni immediately delete all derogatory videos concerning her from social media platforms and issue an unconditional public apology.
Furthermore, the notice demands Rs. 190 million (19 crore) in financial damages for harming her reputation, warning of further formal legal action if these conditions are not met.
The Ongoing Harassment Dispute Involving MPA Saqib Chadhar
This legal clash with Allama Nasir Madni unfolds against the backdrop of a larger, highly publicized controversy involving Momina Iqbal and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA), Saqib Chadhar.
In May 2026, Momina Iqbal made a viral social media appeal alleging that she and her family had been subjected to severe online harassment, cyberbullying, and death threats by the lawmaker over an extended period.
According to her formal complaints registered with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and local police, the harassment intensified after she rejected Chadhar’s marriage proposal upon discovering he was already married. She accused the lawmaker of attempting to access her private data, blackmailing her, and intimidating her fiancé.
In response, MPA Saqib Chadhar filed for interim pre-arrest bail, while his legal team countered the claims by asserting that the two had shared a long-standing personal relationship since 2020 and denied the harassment allegations.
The high-profile case quickly drew national attention, prompting Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to intervene publicly, warning that any misuse of political influence or gender-based exploitation would be dealt with strictly on merit.
Amid the intense social media scrutiny and polarization surrounding this case, various public and religious commentators, including Nasir Madni, released video statements discussing the actress, which ultimately triggered this latest round of defamation proceedings.
