The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan organized a prestigious ceremony in Lahore to honor some of the country’s most distinguished scientists and researchers for their outstanding contributions to education, research, and national development.
The event was attended by Punjab Minister for Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat as the chief guest.
In this regard, Rana Sikandar Hayat highlighted the Punjab government’s commitment to strengthening the higher education sector through significant reforms and increased financial support.
He stated that the government has taken historic measures to promote quality education and research across the province.
The minister revealed that the combined budget of Punjab’s universities has been increased from Rs2 billion to Rs25 billion, describing the move as a major step toward improving academic standards and institutional performance.
He noted that the enhanced funding is already producing positive results in various sectors of higher education.
In this sense, universities across Punjab are witnessing noticeable improvements in academic, research, and administrative affairs. He added that public sector universities have also experienced a steady increase in student enrollment, indicating growing confidence in the quality of higher education institutions.
The minister further pointed to the recent Central Superior Services (CSS) examination results, stating that nearly 40 successful candidates were graduates of Punjab University.
He described this achievement as a clear indication of the university’s academic excellence and its role in preparing students for leadership positions in the country.
During his address, Rana Sikandar Hayat paid tribute to the services of scientists and researchers, emphasizing their vital role in advancing knowledge, innovation, and economic growth.
He said that researchers are instrumental in addressing national challenges and contributing to sustainable development through scientific progress.
The event confirmed the importance of investing in higher education and research as key drivers of national progress and development, while highlighting the growing role of Pakistani universities in producing talented graduates and internationally recognized research.
