TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has announced that an overwhelming majority of Iran’s parliament has supported a memorandum of understanding reached with the United States.
President Pezeshkian said the understanding was reached after extensive consultations and detailed discussions involving government officials and members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament).
He explained that the agreement aims to determine whether the United States is genuinely prepared to engage with Iran on the basis of mutual respect and recognition of Iran’s national rights.
The Iranian president said that nearly all members of parliament endorsed the agreement after careful review of its provisions. He noted that lawmakers viewed the memorandum as an opportunity to practically assess the intentions, behavior and commitment of the United States toward constructive engagement with Iran.
In this regard, Pezeshkian further stated that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, played a central role during the drafting process by ensuring the inclusion of provisions designed to safeguard Iran’s national interests.
The Iranian leader described the memorandum as the outcome of several months of diplomatic contacts, negotiations and sustained efforts by both sides.
He said the agreement represents a significant development aimed at ending conflict, easing regional tensions and opening the door to meaningful dialogue.
At the same time, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran remains fully prepared for all possible outcomes and possesses the capability to respond to any situation.
He expressed confidence that if all terms of the agreement are implemented fairly and completely, the memorandum could become a source of national pride for Iran.
The president also noted that while limited differences had emerged over certain aspects of the agreement during negotiations, those issues had been successfully resolved.
