US-Iran Pace Deal Hours Away: PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Saturday that the United States and Iran are closer than ever to reaching a peace deal, expressing optimism that a final agrement could be concluded within the next 24 hours.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, the Pakistani premier said Islamabad was preparing for the electronic signing of the agreement immediately after its formal completion, while technical-level negotiations are expected to continue next week to address implementation details.

Sharif thanked both Washington and Tehran for their continued cooperation and constructive engagement throughout the negotiation process, which he described as a significant step toward regional stability.

He also expressed deep appreciation for the support extended by friendly countries in the region, saying their diplomatic backing had contributed positively to the peace efforts.

“The forthcoming agreement has the potential to become a historic milestone and lay a strong foundation for lasting peace and stability in the region,” the prime minister said.

The development comes amid growing indications that the United States and Iran are on the verge of a breakthrough. Earlier this week, Iran’s foreign minister hinted at progress in a post on social media, which was subsequently shared by U.S. President Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform, fueling speculation that negotiations had entered their final phase.

Pakistan has played an active diplomatic role in facilitating contacts and encouraging dialogue between the two sides. Officials in both Washington and Tehran have reportedly acknowledged Islamabad’s efforts in helping create a conducive environment for negotiations.

Analysts say a successful agreement between the United States and Iran could ease regional tensions, strengthen diplomatic engagement, and open the door to broader cooperation on security and economic issues across the Middle East and South Asia.
