BAP accuses Achakzai of promoting politics of division

Deadlock ends as speaker initiates process to appoint Mahmood Achakzai as opposition leader

QUETTA: The Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) has strongly reacted to the recent statement of Mahmood Khan Achakzai, asserting that Baloch and Pashtun are “two bodies and one soul” that no force can separate.

In a statement issued on Monday, a BAP spokesperson dismissed Achakzai’s remarks as an attempt to drive a wedge between the two brotherly communities. The spokesperson labeled the veteran Pashtun nationalist leader a “political businessman” who, whenever his political standing weakens, tries to create differences and hatred between the Baloch and Pashtun nations.

“Such elements have nothing to do with harmony between nations or the development and prosperity of the country,” the spokesperson said, adding that Baloch and Pashtun have shared centuries-old ties of brotherhood and mutual respect.

The BAP spokesperson further clarified that every attempt to spread hatred between the two communities will be thwarted. Achakzai’s “instigating hateful politics” was described as an old tradition, and his latest effort to create division was termed “very regrettable and condemnable.”

“No conspiracy to harm harmony, hatred, chaos and brotherhood will be allowed to succeed,” the statement read. “Baloch and Pashtun are conscious nations, and every attempt to divide them will fail.”

The party accused Achakzai of repeatedly promoting the politics of division for personal interests, adding that the people understand his intentions well. BAP reaffirmed its commitment to continue efforts to promote unity, solidarity and brotherhood between the Pashtun and Baloch nations, vowing that no one will be allowed to divide the people through the politics of hatred.
