BANNU: Police in Bannu defused a 10-kilogram remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) on Saturday, officials said, averting what they described as a major disaster.

The device was planted near Gul Zaman Mosque on the Bannu–Miranshah Road within the limits of Cantt Police Station.

Police credited the timely report for preventing casualties and praised public cooperation in counterterrorism efforts.

Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

They added that all information will be kept confidential.

Police said security forces maintain a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and will continue operations to protect public safety in the district.
