ISLAMABAD: In a move set to impact energy tariffs across the country, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a substantial increase in the prices of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the month of May. The price hike, which reaches up to 28 percent, was formalized through an official notification issued by the regulator.
According to the notification, consumers on the Sui Southern Gas Company system will see an increase of $3.51 per MMBTU. This brings the new price of LNG on the Sui Southern network to $16.04 per MMBTU.
Similarly, the price of LNG on the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines system has been raised by $3.43 per MMBTU. Following this adjustment, the new price for consumers on the Sui Northern system has been set at $16.98 per MMBTU.
The regulatory authority did not provide an immediate explanation for the sharp rise, which is expected to place an additional financial burden on industries, power generation companies, and, indirectly, domestic consumers who rely on gas for heating and cooking.
