PESHAWAR: Three students of Islamia College Peshawar have been suspended for two weeks following an incident involving the harassment and mistreatment of a female lecturer.
According to an initial report by the university’s disciplinary committee, the three individuals have been barred from entering the campus premises until a final decision is reached.
Following the administration’s prompt action, the Teaching Staff Association announced the postponement of their scheduled strike, confirming that all academic activities will proceed normally until June 8.
The disciplinary action stems from a formal complaint lodged by the lecturer, Gul Rukh, with the Vice-Chancellor. In her letter, she detailed that the incident occurred on May 12 during a mid-term test for the second-semester Botany class.
A group of male students refused to take the exam, intimidated their peers, tore up the test papers, and threw them at the lecturer’s face before briefly locking her and the remaining female students inside the classroom.
The complainant further noted that the students later returned with reinforcements, surrounded her, and blocked the department gate as she attempted to leave.
The individuals allegedly used political affiliations to threaten her and pressure her into awarding them passing grades.
Prior to the suspensions, the Teaching Staff Association had threatened a complete boycott of academic duties if immediate legal and administrative measures were not taken against the perpetrators.
