Trump Says ‘Too Soon’ for Face to Face US–Iran Peace Talks

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday it is “too soon” to consider face-to-face peace talks with Iran, despite reports of progress toward ending the conflict.

He made the remarks in comments to a U.S. media outlet, downplaying speculation about imminent negotiations in Pakistan.

“I don’t think so,” Trump said when asked about a possible trip to Pakistan for talks. He added that it was premature to plan such a move.

Earlier, Trump said a potential agreement with Iran remained conditional.

He wrote on social media that the conflict could end if Iran accepts the proposed terms. He warned that failure to agree could lead to renewed military action.

Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would reopen to all shipping if a deal is reached.

He added that a naval blockade would remain in place until an agreement is finalized.

Reports have suggested that discussions are underway on a framework that could include limits on Iran’s nuclear activities and relief from U.S. sanctions.

Officials familiar with the process said multiple versions of a proposal are being reviewed and no final agreement has been reached.

A Pakistani source involved in mediation efforts said uncertainty remains over which terms would be approved.

Trump has previously opposed allowing Iran any continued nuclear enrichment.

The latest comments came after the United States paused “Project Freedom,” an operation aimed at securing maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz.

The decision followed requests from Pakistan and other countries, including Saudi Arabia, which said the move could support diplomatic efforts.

Talks between Washington and Tehran remain ongoing, but a final deal has yet to be secured.
