WASHINGTON : President Donald Trump announced on social media that the United States will begin efforts on Monday morning to free ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, adding that Washington is holding “very positive talks” with Iran.
According to the president’s message, several countries around the world have asked for US assistance in getting their vessels out of the strategic waterway. Trump said the operation would prioritize ships from nations that were not involved in the recent conflict in the Middle East.
He also instructed his representatives to inform those countries that the US will do its utmost to free both their stranded ships and crews from the strait.
The announcement follows earlier diplomatic signals between Washington and Tehran, though no further details about the nature of the talks were provided.
