PESHAWAR: A female journalist was mistreated and prevented from covering an event attended by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi at IM Sciences, an educational institution in Peshawar.
Although media had been officially invited for coverage, Pashtun Digital reporter Rani Andaleeb said she was stopped by the Chief Minister’s security staff.
She stated that she was not only blocked from reporting inside the hall but was also stopped from recording outside the venue.
According to her, the issue began after she asked Chief Minister Sohail Afridi a question regarding the condition of universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Following that, security personnel reportedly restricted her coverage.
She further said that if the government truly believes in democratic values and freedom for youth, such actions raise serious questions about freedom of expression.
The incident has sparked concern among journalistic circles, while no official statement has yet been issued by the government.
