President Zardari Visits China Today for High-Level Strategic Talks

ISLAMABAD: A week-long state visit to China will be undertaken by Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday, the Foreign Office said.

The visit will be made at the invitation of the Chinese government.

A travel schedule covering multiple cities has been set. Visits will be made to Changsha from April 25 to 27, followed by Sanya from April 28 to May 1.

Meetings with provincial leadership will be held during the visit. Discussions will focus on Pakistan-China bilateral relations, with emphasis placed on economic cooperation, trade, and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. A long-standing tradition of high-level exchanges has been highlighted by officials.

The relationship between Pakistan and China has been described as an “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.” It has often been referred to as an “iron-clad” partnership.

Cooperation has been expanded across economic, defence, and strategic sectors. The Belt and Road Initiative has served as a key framework for joint development projects.

Collaboration has also been extended to emerging areas, including space technology. Training of Pakistani astronauts for future missions to China’s Tiangong space station has been reported.

Pakistan was among the first countries to recognise the People’s Republic of China in 1950. Close diplomatic engagement has been maintained since then.

Support has consistently been extended by Islamabad on issues including Xinjiang, Taiwan, and the One-China policy.
