NEW YORK: Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has said the next round of negotiations could be held in Islamabad once a US naval blockade on Iranian ports is lifted.
The remarks were made during a media interaction at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. It was stated that the path for talks would be cleared as soon as United States ends the maritime blockade. The next phase of negotiations could then be hosted in Islamabad, according to comments cited by Iranian state media.
On the other side, Donald Trump announced an extension of the ongoing ceasefire with Iran. It was stated that the truce would remain in place until Tehran presents a concrete proposal for a permanent resolution to the conflict. However, it was made clear that the blockade on Iranian ports would continue.
Analysts said the statements from both sides indicate that prospects for renewed negotiations remain. However, any breakthrough is likely to depend on the lifting of US sanctions and the end of the naval blockade.
