ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Energy Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari has announced a reduction in electricity load shedding starting from tonight.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the minister apologized to the public for the inconvenience caused by load shedding and said the government has always worked to bring people out of darkness.
Leghari stated that electricity supply will improve from last night onward, with a clear reduction in load shedding beginning tonight.
He clarified that no load shedding is being carried out in Hyderabad and for K-Electric, which is currently receiving a record 2,100 MW from the national grid.
The country is currently facing a shortfall of around 4,000 MW due to the suspension of gas supply caused by the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and a 1,600 MW reduction in hydel power generation.
The minister added that the use of furnace oil is currently producing 1,400 MW of electricity.
He noted that the power crisis is temporary and will end once hydel generation improves and LNG supply is restored.
He further mentioned that fuel price adjustment may increase by up to Rs1.30 per unit due to furnace oil usage, and the complete resolution of the power crisis depends on the restoration of LNG supply.
