PM Shehbaz apprises MBS of Pakistan’s role in US-Iran ceasefire

JEDDAH :  Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made it clear that Pakistan will continue its efforts to advance talks between the United States and Iran and to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region, following a detailed meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah.

 

In a message posted on the social media platform X after the nearly two-hour-long meeting at Qasr Al Islam, the Prime Minister said he held extensive discussions with the Crown Prince on matters of mutual interest and the current regional situation.

 

PM Shehbaz stated that he reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia and praised the wise strategy, patience, and forbearance of the Saudi leadership in difficult circumstances.

 

During the meeting, the Prime Minister apprised the Crown Prince of Pakistan’s role in facilitating the ceasefire between the US and Iran, as well as the recent progress regarding historic peace talks held in Islamabad. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to continue working toward a lasting peace agreement between Washington and Tehran, emphasizing that such an accord would ensure durable stability across the region.

 

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude for the Saudi Crown Prince’s support for Pakistan’s peace efforts.

 

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting lasted approximately two hours, during which both leaders discussed the emerging regional situation in detail. The statement noted that PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity and support for Saudi Arabia in the context of regional tensions, and appreciated the exemplary patience and forbearance demonstrated by the Kingdom in recent circumstances.

 

“The people of Pakistan stand by their Saudi brothers,” the Prime Minister said, adding that the Saudi leadership serves as a model for all peace-loving nations.

 

In response, the Saudi Crown Prince appreciated the constructive role played by the Prime Minister and Field Marshal Asim Munir in the peace process. PM Shehbaz, in turn, acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s continued support for Pakistan’s economic stability.

 

The two leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening close cooperation in the fields of defense and security, as well as promoting their longstanding bilateral partnership.
