Significant progress has been made in negotiations with Iran, the ball is now in Tehran’s court: JD Vance

Significant progress has been made in negotiations with Iran

JD Vance, the Vice President of the United States, has indicated that recent negotiations with Iran have shown notable progress, describing the discussions as constructive and forward-moving.

Vance stated that the dialogue between the two countries had been positive, with advancements observed on several key issues. He focused on that the talks marked a significant moment in diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran.

In this regard, this may have been the first time that both governments engaged at such a high level, suggesting that even in the history of Iran’s current leadership, such direct and senior-level interaction could be unprecedented.

He noted that the discussions indicated a mutual willingness to explore diplomatic solutions to longstanding tensions.

The US Vice President underscored that responsibility now lies with Tehran. “The ball is in Iran’s court,” he said, adding that it is up to Iranian authorities to determine the steps needed to move the process forward.

So far, Vance reasserted Washington’s firm stance on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, stating that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons under any circumstances. He explained that all US red lines in the negotiations stem from this fundamental principle, which remains central to American foreign policy in the region.

He expressed hope that Iran would take necessary measures to ensure that this vital maritime route remains open, mentioning  its critical role in global energy supply and international trade.

The recent round of talks, held in Islamabad, did not yield a final agreement.

However, officials on both sides have acknowledged that the discussions were a step in the right direction.
