QUETTA : A stunning revelation has emerged in Balochistan: the records of 3,762 government vehicles are not available, according to a report submitted by the Excise Department to Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti.
The report stated that the Excise Department’s database currently lists 14,304 government vehicles. However, during a physical verification process, the presence of 3,672 vehicles could not be confirmed.
Among the missing vehicles, the Agriculture Department alone has no trace of 1,142 vehicles. The Police Department is missing 443 vehicles, while 171 vehicles of the Local Government department could not be verified.
In Quetta, the Health Department failed to locate 168 of its vehicles, and the Education Department could not account for 131 vehicles.
Other departments also faced significant shortages: the Administration, Planning and Development Department has no record of 113 vehicles; the Planning Department is missing 65 vehicles; and the Social Welfare Department cannot trace 63 vehicles.
In response to the alarming report, Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti has formed a three-member committee to investigate the whereabouts of these vehicles and determine accountability. The committee has been tasked with submitting a detailed inquiry report at the earliest.
The development has raised serious questions about asset management and transparency within government departments across the province.
