The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has approved an amendment bill related to motor vehicle registration, offering significant short-term financial relief to motorcycle and rickshaw owners across the province.
The bill was passed with a majority vote, indicating broad support among lawmakers.
The private member bill was presented by government member Daud Shah, proposing the elimination of several fees associated with vehicle registration and transfer.
The transfer fee for motorcycles and rickshaws has been completely waived for a period of one month. This exemption translates into a saving of Rs500 for motorcycle owners and Rs800 for rickshaw owners.
The government has also decided to temporarily abolish charges for number plates and smart cards. The amendment further states that the PRM fee of Rs2,300 for motorcycles and the Rs2,600 registration fee for rickshaws will not be collected during the relief period.
These measures are expected to reduce the overall cost burden on citizens and make the registration process more accessible and affordable.
The Excise Department has been directed to ensure immediate implementation of the revised fee structure.
