PM's big statement regarding the price of petrol has come to light

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has focused on the need to promote environmentally friendly electric vehicles (EVs) in order to conserve the country’s foreign exchange reserves, amid rising global oil prices.

Prime Minister noted that petroleum prices are soaring worldwide, placing additional pressure on Pakistan’s economy. He stated that the adoption of electric vehicles would significantly reduce reliance on imported fuel and help save valuable foreign exchange.

The Prime Minister appreciated the initiative taken by the Islamabad Traffic Police to incorporate eco-friendly vehicles into their fleet, describing it as a positive and forward-looking step.

He expressed hope that similar measures would be replicated across other cities in the country.

During the ceremony, participants were briefed that, in the first phase, 15 electric vehicles have been provided, while a total of 55 vehicles will be delivered to the traffic police in Islamabad.

The newly inducted electric vehicles are expected to play a key role in improving traffic flow in the capital. They will be deployed on major roads to enhance operational efficiency. On a full charge, each vehicle can travel between 350 to 400 kilometers, making them suitable for extended daily use.

It was also revealed that the cost of each electric vehicle could be recovered within a relatively short period of 13 to 14 months due to reduced fuel and maintenance expenses.

The initiative indicates the government’s broader commitment to sustainable development and energy efficiency, as Pakistan explores alternatives to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels while addressing environmental challenges.
