KP Implements 4-Day School Week

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced a four-day working week model in all public educational institutions across the province.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has issued a notification for new school timings.

According to the announcement, schools in the province will remain closed on Fridays and Saturdays. The new schedule has taken immediate effect from today, April 1, 2026.

The change in school hours has been made due to the rising fuel prices and shortage of supply.

Primary schools will operate from 7:30 AM to 1:35 PM, middle schools from 7:30 AM to 2:35 PM, while high and higher secondary schools will close at 3:00 PM.

Meanwhile, schools across Punjab have reopened today after being closed as part of austerity measures amid the fuel crisis.

Following online classes, regular academic activities have resumed. The Punjab government had shut down educational institutions from March 10 to March 31 under the fuel-saving campaign.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat stated that the academic session has returned to normal from today.

Teaching activities will continue five days a week as usual, and all stakeholders must work together to overcome challenges in the education sector.
