Pakistan to Set Up Special Unit to Protect Chinese Nationals: Interior Minister

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad for talks with Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, focusing on security cooperation and investment coordination.

Officials said the discussions centered on strengthening counterterrorism collaboration and improving protection for Chinese nationals working on projects across Pakistan.

Naqvi announced the establishment of a Special Protection Unit (SPU) to safeguard foreign nationals, particularly Chinese citizens in the capital. The unit will include personnel trained in the Chinese language to improve communication and operational efficiency.

Both sides also agreed to organize a business conference to facilitate investment. The initiative will move in two phases, starting with consultations with Chinese companies already operating in Pakistan, followed by outreach to potential investors.

The meeting follows recent engagement between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Ambassador Jiang, where both sides reaffirmed commitment to advancing Phase II of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
