QUETTA: Security forces in Balochistan have arrested a female suicide bomber in a major operation, officials said on Wednesday. The suspect, 19, hails from Zahri tehsil in Khuzdar district.
The arrest was announced in a joint press conference by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti and Provincial Home Minister Mir Zia Langove, who praised the security forces for preventing a major attack.
The suspect, identified as Laiba, joined the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) in July 2025. Investigations revealed her links to BLA commander Saleem Jan, alias Dil Jan, and to former TTP commander Ibrahim, alias Qazi. She also had contact with BYC leader Dr. Sabiha Baloch for further operational training.
During interrogation, Laiba admitted that she was being prepared for a suicide mission and was tasked with recruiting other women for similar attacks. She urged women not to participate in terrorist activities.
Chief Minister Bugti described the operation as a significant step toward restoring peace in Balochistan. He said intelligence-based actions prevented major casualties and disrupted terrorist plans.
Bugti warned that terrorists exploit women and children and mislead the public under the guise of Baloch identity. He said BLA and Bashir Zeb & Company had damaged the respect of women and forced the community into senseless conflict.
The Chief Minister stressed that women’s and children’s issues would be handled by the police’s dedicated women units to ensure safety and protection. He urged the public not to join any extremist or unlawful activity.
Bugti highlighted ongoing government initiatives to counter radicalization. Programs include community awareness campaigns, education and employment opportunities, and measures to shield children from extremist influence.
He said authorities would monitor the misuse of the internet and propaganda tools to prevent extremist narratives from spreading. The government aims to engage youth in positive activities and protect social harmony.
The operation also exposed operational links between the BLA and BYC and revealed the reality behind missing persons claims promoted by the groups.
