Kabul strikes trigger propaganda surge online

ISLAMABAD: The Afghan internet and social media, which had remained shut down for several days, suddenly became active again last night, raising questions about the timing. The situation began to become clearer following the airstrikes carried out in Kabul the previous night.

Reports suggest that the Afghan Taliban reactivated social media despite earlier warnings that users would face strict punishment.

Taliban sources are now claiming that the strike targeted a “rehabilitation center,” while Indian social media accounts, including figures such as Priyanka Chopra, along with other international voices critical of Pakistan, are said to be amplifying this narrative.

However, ground reports appear to contradict these claims, as local journalists were only allowed access to the site after a delay, which is described as unusual.

According to initial observations, there were no visible signs of bloodshed or large-scale destruction at the location, and no confirmed casualties have been reported.

Questions are also being raised about the absence of victims’ families if large numbers of casualties had occurred. Media outlets such as Zawiya News and Afghan Times have not reported any deaths or identified victims.

The building reportedly suffered only minor damage, with limited fire impact, and witnesses said the main explosion occurred some distance away.

People present at the scene stated that no injured individuals were found, and local sources described the fire as contained.

Reports indicate that a nearby Taliban military camp may have been the actual target, with flames rising due to ammunition igniting after the blast.

The situation is being described as an attempt to damage Pakistan’s global image and divert attention from ongoing security concerns.

Pakistan maintains that no propaganda will deter it from protecting its citizens and reiterates that as long as Afghanistan continues to provide space to Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan militants, including suicide attackers, it will continue its counterterrorism operations.
