WASHINGTON: United States President Donald Trump has stated that Iran must surrender in order to end the ongoing conflict, while focusing on that any potential agreement with Tehran would require strict conditions, particularly regarding its nuclear capabilities.
President Trump said that Iran has shown interest in reaching an agreement but is not ready to accept the conditions proposed by the United States.
“Iran wants a deal, but it is not prepared to accept our conditions. Therefore, I am not interested in an agreement under the current circumstances,” he said.
The US president further stressed that one of the key requirements for any future agreement would be Iran stepping back from its nuclear ambitions.
He added that a ceasefire could only take place if a better agreement was reached that satisfied US demands and ensured long-term regional stability.
Trump also referred to reports circulating about the possible death of Mojtaba Khamenei, who has been widely speculated to be a potential future leader in Iran.
Trump acknowledged that the information might only be a rumor but suggested that if Mojtaba Khamenei is alive, he should make a wise decision for the future of his country.
The US president called on allied nations to send warships to help ensure security in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is one of the world’s most important shipping routes for global oil supplies, and tensions in the region have raised concerns about international energy security.
Trump also mentioned the Iranian island of Kharg Island, suggesting that it could again become a target of bombing, although he made the stated in what appeared to be a casual tone.
He added that the United States is working alongside other countries to maintain security in the Strait of Hormuz.
Furthermore, Trump said it is still unclear whether Iran has deployed naval mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. He focused on that the United States and its partners are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any disruption to international shipping and trade.
