US Senator: Trump spending $1B daily on Iran war, seeking $50B more

US Supreme Court invalidates President Trump's tariff measures

WASHINGTON – Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) has issued a fiery condemnation of the Trump administration’s military campaign in Iran, vowing to oppose a massive new funding request as the cost of the conflict continues to mount.

In a statement released Thursday, Van Hollen asserted that the administration is already spending $1 billion per day on what he termed an “illegal regime change war of choice.” He revealed that the White House is preparing to ask Congress for an additional $50 billion in supplemental funding to sustain the operations .

Trump is already spending $1 BILLION PER DAY on his illegal regime change war of choice in Iran,” Van Hollen said. “Now, he’s going to ask Congress to give him up to $50 BILLION MORE. My vote: hell NO.”

The senator’s declaration comes just days after the Senate rejected a War Powers Resolution that would have constrained the president’s authority to conduct military operations against Iran without congressional approval. The vote fell largely along party lines, 47-53, with only Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) crossing the aisle to support the measure .

Van Hollen has been one of the most vocal critics of the strikes, which began on February 28 and resulted in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei . He previously accused President Trump and Vice President JD Vance of lying to the American people about their intentions to avoid Middle East entanglements .
