ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has issued a strong warning, stating that Pakistan’s patience with cross-border terrorism has been “exhausted” and that the planners of such violence will not remain out of reach, wherever they are.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the President declared that the nation is taking steps under its “natural right of defense” to counter the threats.
“The planners of violence, wherever they are, will not remain out of reach,” President Zardari said, emphasizing that tolerance for terrorism originating from across the border has reached its limit.
The President expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in the region, specifically pointing to Afghanistan. He noted that despite international warnings, terrorist groups continue to find operational space there. He claimed that the situation in Afghanistan has become “even more worrying and uncertain” than in the previous period.
Zardari also took aim at the implementation of the Doha Agreement, alleging that contrary to the promises made, terrorist elements have been given free rein. He referenced the latest report by the United Nations, which he said corroborates Pakistan’s stance on the presence of terror sanctuaries.
The President’s remarks signal a potential shift toward a more assertive policy in dealing with militant groups operating from neighboring territories, as Pakistan reiterates its right to defend its sovereignty
