BLA Is Dangerous Terror, Not a Separatist Group: US

QUETTA: The recent attacks by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), known as Fitna al Hindustan, show that the group has shifted from a traditional separatist movement to modern militant tactics.

Coordinated assaults carried out across Balochistan on January 31 killed dozens of civilians and security personnel.

Retired US Army Colonel and former communications director Joe Buccino said the BLA now targets civilians, educational institutions, transport networks and critical infrastructure. He noted that most local grievances focus on jobs, better governance and improved security — not secession.

Surveys and research reports indicate that the majority of people in Balochistan support national integration and do not favor separation, he added.

Buccino stressed that the BLA’s operations undermine peace and development in the region. He warned that continued violence threatens major economic initiatives, particularly the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
