ISLAMABAD: In a major security-driven initiative, the authorities have significantly tightened the cordon around Afghan citizens residing in the federal capital. A complete investigation has been ordered specifically targeting Afghan nationals who are in possession of Pakistani identity cards.
According to official directives, special teams have been constituted to scrutinize and verify suspicious identity documents. The process of blocking and verifying the Pakistani identity cards of Afghan citizens has been expedited by the Interior Ministry to ensure thorough background checks.
The Station House Officers (SHOs) of Islamabad Police have been placed on the front lines of this operation. They have been directed to personally question Afghan citizens who hold Pakistani Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) and verify their residential records. The orders mandate that SHOs ensure a complete “backtracking” of the records of these individuals to ascertain the legitimacy of their documentation and presence in the country.
Furthermore, the process of mapping all Afghan visa holders residing within the limits of each police station has also been ordered to be expedited. The directives explicitly state that all SHOs will be held responsible for the accurate mapping and monitoring of Afghan citizens present on legal visas in their respective jurisdictions.
The move indicates a heightened focus on documentation and security protocols concerning foreign nationals in the federal capital.
