UAE Bans Junk Food in Schools to Safeguard Student Health

ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Education has imposed a nationwide ban on unhealthy food items in schools to protect students’ health.

The ban covers potato chips, chocolate, and carbonated soft drinks. Officials said the decision aims to promote healthier eating habits among children.

The ministry issued new guidelines to ensure schools provide nutritious food. It instructed parents to pack balanced and wholesome breakfasts for their children.

Authorities also banned nuts that may trigger allergies, artificial food colorings, and high-sugar products. Officials said these measures will reduce health risks and improve student well-being.

School administrations must now inspect lunch boxes regularly. They must prevent students from bringing prohibited items onto campus.

Officials encouraged schools to offer fresh fruits, low-fat milk, yogurt, and lightly baked or roasted foods. They said these steps will support students’ growth and development.
