KARACHI: A fire that erupted in a residential building near Baloch Colony Bridge in Karachi spread panic across the area on Thursday.
Rescue officials said the blaze started in the building’s basement, where vehicles were parked and a generator was installed. Flames spread rapidly within minutes.
Authorities initially believed the structure was five stories high. Rescue sources later confirmed the building has eight floors, with four apartments on each level, increasing the scale of risk.
Firefighters deployed two snorkels and five fire tenders to control the blaze. Emergency teams continued rescue operations at full pace. Officials said they had evacuated more than 100 residents safely from the building.
Following the incident, Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho directed police to reach the site immediately. He ordered them to secure the building, residents and surrounding areas.

Authorities also instructed officials to keep access routes clear to ensure uninterrupted movement of fire brigade, ambulance and rescue vehicles.
Rescue efforts were ongoing at the time of filing this report.
