To maintain order, Quetta bans road blockades and shutter-down strikes

QUETTA: The district administration has issued a stern warning against any form of strike, road blockade, or forced closure of businesses in the city, emphasizing that such activities are illegal while Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code remains in force.

The order, implemented to protect citizens’ lives and property, restore law and order, and maintain normal public life, explicitly prohibits traffic jams, shutter-down strikes, and the blocking of roads. Authorities have declared that “no kind of strike will be allowed” under the current restrictions.

“During the implementation of Section 144, road blockades, shutter-down strikes, and forcibly closing shops and blocking roads are violations of the law,” stated the official release. The administration warned that strict legal action, including arrest and detention under the 3-Maintenance of Public Order (3MPO), will be taken against individuals, organizations, or facilitators found violating the ban.

The Quetta Police have appealed to citizens for cooperation, urging them not to listen to rumors and to play a positive role in ensuring the city’s peace and stability. Reiterating their commitment to public safety, the police emphasized their dedication to protecting lives and property at all times.

The enforcement of Section 144 highlights the administration’s efforts to preempt unrest and maintain daily routine in the provincial capital, with a zero-tolerance policy towards activities deemed disruptive to public order
