ISLAMABAD: The United States has strongly condemned a series of deadly terrorist attacks carried out in Balochistan on January 31, indicating one of the most intense security incidents in the region in recent months.
The attacks targeted both security personnel and civilians, drawing immediate international attention and concern.
In this sense, the formal statement issued by US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, Washington described the violence as “acts of terrorism” and confirmed that responsibility for the attacks was claimed by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).
The group is officially designated by the United States as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, a classification that carries serious diplomatic and security implications. Baker expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the victims of the attacks, their families, and all those affected by the violence.
She focused on the fact that the suffering caused by such acts extends far beyond the immediate scene, leaving lasting emotional and social scars.
“The people of Pakistan deserve to live free from violence and fear,” the statement said, reaffirming a principle that has frequently appeared in US responses to security incidents in the region.
It also underlined America’s continued support for peace and stability in Pakistan, describing the United States as a “steadfast partner” during difficult times.
However, analysts say the statement carries broader significance. The explicit mention of the BLA’s terrorist designation signals Washington’s concern over evolving militant threats and their potential impact on regional security.
It also mentions the growing international focus on Balochistan, a province that has long remained sensitive due to its strategic location and complex security challenges.
