BENGALURU: The Chairman of the Confident Group, was found dead inside his office premises in Bengaluru while income tax officials were conducting a raid.
The dramatic and unsettling incident unfolded in India’s technology capital when the chairman of a prominent real estate group died during an ongoing Income Tax Department operation at his office.
So far, the Initial information suggests that Roy allegedly took his own life during the operation, though authorities have stressed that no final conclusion has been reached at this stage.
In this regard, Bengaluru Police Commissioner confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. and said law enforcement agencies were alerted immediately. The office was secured, and forensic teams were deployed to collect evidence as part of standard investigative protocol. Senior police officers remained at the site late into the evening.
Furthermore, the development has drawn wide attention as income tax raids had reportedly been underway for the past three days against Roy and companies linked to him.
Police officials focused on that the circumstances surrounding Roy’s death are being examined from multiple angles.
“Only after a comprehensive investigation can it be determined whether this was a case of suicide or whether any form of abetment or external pressure was involved,” the police commissioner stated, adding that statements from all officials present during the operation would be recorded.
The income tax team involved in the operation had arrived from the southern state of Kerala, a detail that has added another layer of complexity to the investigation. Coordination between state and central agencies is now underway.
Moreover, family members have also begun sharing details that may prove significant. Roy’s brother reportedly said that income tax officials had first questioned the businessman in December and later summoned him back from Dubai on January 28 for further inquiry, after which investigative activity intensified.
