ISLAMABAD: Light rain began in Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Monday, while heavy snowfall continued in the Galiyat region and surrounding mountainous areas.
Pakistan’s Meteorological Department said cold conditions have intensified and urged the public to prepare for a further drop in temperatures. A new weather system has entered the country, triggering rain and snowfall across multiple regions.
The department forecast more rain and snowfall in upper parts of the country from today through tomorrow and issued alerts over the risk of landslides.
In Islamabad, rain accompanied by strong winds and thunder is expected during the night. Rain is also likely in parts of Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu.
Authorities issued advisories for Murree after forecasting a severe snowstorm and urged residents and tourists to follow safety guidelines.
More snowfall is expected in Chitral, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Shangla. Rain and snowfall are also likely in Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galiyat, Neelum Valley, and Bagh.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, rain and snowfall are forecast for Poonch and Haveli districts.
Snowfall has also intensified in parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, and Qila Saifullah. Authorities warned that snowfall could block roads in Noshki, Harnai, and Zhob.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority said it has placed heavy machinery along major highways, along with operational staff, to reduce potential damage and ensure road access.
Officials warned that the risk of landslides remains high in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Rain and snowfall have already begun in Quetta, Qalat, Mastung, Kan Mehtarzai, Muslim Bagh, and Chaman.
Authorities also warned of possible flooding in streams and mountain waterways and advised residents and travelers to remain cautious.
