QUETTA: A fresh winter weather system is set to sweep across Balochistan starting today (Sunday), bringing a new series of rainfall and snowfall to various parts of the province, including the provincial capital. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a detailed forecast, warning of potential disruptions and advising relevant authorities to stay alert.
According to the Met Office, snowfall will commence from Monday in several western and northern districts, including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Haramzai, Khanozai, Kan, Mehrzai, Muslim Bagh, Qila Abdullah, and Gulistan. The snowfall is expected to persist through Tuesday, likely leading to slippery road conditions and possible travel disruptions in these high-altitude areas.
Simultaneously, from Sunday through Tuesday, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are predicted for Gwadar, Khuzdar, Kech, Chagai, Panjgur, Sibi, Harnai, Daki, Loralai, and Lasbela. The Met Department has specifically highlighted a risk of urban flooding in Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Jagh, and Kech on Monday due to the anticipated heavy downpours.
In light of these forecasts, the Meteorological Department has directed all concerned institutions, including civil administration, disaster management authorities, and local administrations, to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures. The advisory emphasizes the need to manage traffic in snowfall-affected areas to prevent accidents and to ensure drainage systems are clear in rain-hit districts to mitigate flooding risks.
The incoming weather spell marks another active period for Balochistan’s winter season, which significantly influences the region’s water resources and agriculture but also poses challenges for infrastructure and daily life. Residents, particularly in coastal and mountainous regions, are advised to exercise caution and stay updated with official weather bulletins over the coming days.
